Tragic accident in Hartenbos

A tragic accident in Hartenbos in the Southern Cape happened at the corners of Louie Fourie and Kaap de Goede roads.

Police are currently investigating the actual details of the accident, but it appears that it was a severe side impact collision between a Ford Focus and an Opel Kadett.

A father and his three young daughters aged between seven and eleven, were traveling in the Opel at the time of the accident. The three girls were flung from the vehicle during the impact and sadly one of the younger girls (7) and the 11 year old died at the scene due to extensive traumatic injuries. Paramedics quickly assessed and loaded the other extensively injured younger girl and her father into the ambulance to be taken to hospital for further medical care and treated them for their injuries en route.

While on their way to hospital, the other little girl’s condition deteriorated and resuscitation efforts were started. Despite all efforts by the paramedics, the third little girl also died due to her extensive injuries. The girls’ father had suffered serious injuries and was handed over to medical staff in a stable condition.

The driver of the Ford Focus sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

I am glad to inform you the third girl aged 7 survived the accident and is doing very well in hospital. This I can tell you because I am a very good friend of the family which are staying with me. They were not three sisters only two were. The 9. Year old was a friend that was sleeping over.

Lola, I will advise that you contact the Detectives at Da Gamaskop Police Station, they are investigating this incident. Their contact no is 044-6062200, I think it is Warrant Officer Hannes Nortje whom is the investigating officer. I saw him at the accident scene this morning together with the Forensic Investigators. This is a horrific accident and the drunkard must pay for his actions.

how easy is it to stand in judgement! how many of us have driven our vehicles under the influence? I see parents who do not insist that their children wear their safety belts! children standing on the front seats!
must there always be a tragedy that takes place before we learn!
very few people in this country adhere to the speed limit! they disregard traffic rules daily!
the driver who killed the children is a drug addict! he has a previous conviction why is he still allowed to drive?
this is a tragedy which we can all learn from!
buckle up! buckle your children up! dont drink and drive! speed kills!

Peter seat belts would not have helped even if the car had seat belts in the back of the car which it did not. The dunk man Friedel Roller was traveling at 180km per hour and made no attempt to even apply brakes. The little Opel that the children were driving in disintegrated under the severe bash it received from the much larger vehicle. Please sign the Petition on

Newspapers identified the driver that caused it as Friedel Roller, currently in George prison until bail hearing.
