A man believed to be thirty five years old had a narrow escape with death after walking into a Factory on Spence Street in the Duncanville Industrial area of Vereeniging while the factory was allegedly being robbed. The man may have interrupted the suspects while he was entering the factory. He sustained a wound to his head as the suspects fled the scene.

The motive around the alleged robbery will be investigated by the local police for further investigation but when ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the man being treated by the local Provincial paramedics. The patient had luckily sustained only a flesh wound to his head and was in a stable condition. We believe that he had sustained the wound on his head after shots were fired by the fleeing suspects. He was transported to a nearby hospital in a very stable condition for further medical care.

It is believed that the man was walking from factory to factory in the area looking for work. He was unfortunate to have walked to the factory that was being held up at the time but is extremely lucky that he is still alive to tell the story.

A man broke down on the N3 highway near the Spaghetti Junction off ramp in the direction of Durban after he allegedly ran out of petrol. The man in his 40′s was then waiting for assistance at the side of the road when an unknown man approached him and allegedly tried to rob him.

The suspected thief, a man in his 30′s, is then believed to have run across the N3 to get away when an Opel Corsa was driving along that exact stretch of highway. The pedestrian was knocked approximately 10 meters and sustained extensive injuries. As ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, they immediately assessed the man’s injuries but there was nothing more that could be done for him and he had already died at the scenedue to the severity of injuries that he had sustained.

The Corsa came to rest in the center median of the highway and the driver, a 47 year old man, had suffered what appeared to be serious injuries. He was treated on scene before being taken to Addington Hospital for further treatment.

An intern doctor and his girlfriend are both in a serious condition after been shot outside a residence in the Morningside area Saturday afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Durban rushed to the scene and found both patients lying on a drive way outside a house. The two patients who were both in a serious condition were been treated by their fellow friends and helped assist the paramedics in treating them further.

The one patient had sustained what looked like a gunshot wound to the stomach region, while the other patient had sustained also what looked like multiple gunshot wounds to the leg. Both patients needed advanced life support intervention and further stabilisation before they were transported to a nearby hospital in a serious condition, where trauma staff was waiting to take over the medical care.

The circumstances or the motive around the alleged shooting is unclear but the local authorities will investigate the incident further.

Two delivery men going about their daily duties landed up in the middle of an alleged armed robbery in Lonehill around noon. The two men in the vehicle were then allegedly shot at and the driver wounded multiple times. The driver then stopped a short way away where the passenger assisted him out of the vehicle and told him to lie in the back loading compartment of the van.

The passenger then took over driving and sped his was to where he knew he had seen the ER24 head office on Witkoppen Street in Paulshof. The quick thinking of the injured man’s working partner may just have saved his life as every medically qualified person at the ER24 head office ran to the man’s assistance while the Ambulance and Response Vehicle were called from the hospital a short distance away.

The critically injured man was stabilised in the back of the delivery van before being transferred to the waiting ambulance a short while later.

The man, in his 20′s was transported to Life Fourways Hospital for further care. The SAP K9 unit and Sandton unit were at the scene to obtain details from the shaken, but fortunately uninjured colleague.

The allegedly armed suspect who approached the workers this morning must have known that the men were receiving their weekly wages and decided to cash in on the event.

It is believed that the men on a small holding were suddenly accosted by one man holding a gun, and when they tried to get him to hand the weapon over and leave, they heard shots ring out and he then started to flee. They allegedly pursued the man, caught him, and held him until the SAP arrived at the scene. Three men had however, been injured in the incident. Two of whom sustained minor injuries in the scuffle, and the third, the 32 year old man, who had sustained an alleged gun shot wound to his right wrist.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, assessed and treated their injuries and transported all three men, who were in a stable condition, to a nearby hospital for further management.

The SAP attended the scene and will be conducting the necessary investigations.

A good Samaritan was shot and killed this morning at a shopping centre in Lenasia.

Shortly after 10:00 paramedics received an emergency call for a shooting incident at a local mall. ER24 paramedics that arrived on the scene found the area cordoned off with a man lying inside of it. The man believed to be in his 20’s sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was already dead by the time paramedics arrived at the scene. Paramedics assessed for any signs of life, but due to the extent of his injuries he was declared dead.

Bystanders on the scene explained to paramedics that apparently an unknown amount of gunmen opened fire on the man when he apparently tried to apprehend them after an alleged robbery.

No one else was injured in this incident. Paramedics offered trauma support to the man’s family and bystanders.

The police attended the scene.

Know all emergency numbers

Keep your cellphone in the bedroom

Never leave keys in a gate or lock

The locks on outside doors should be changed when you move into a new home or after keys have been lost or stolen

Make provision for good outside lighting. Remember outside lights that are on during the day draws the attention of thieves.

Mail left in the gate is also a sign that nobody is at home. Get a friend or neighbour to keep a regular eye on your property and to remove mail and newspapers.

Use lighting to your advantage:

Lights that are on inside while it is dark outside put you at a disadvantage

Lights that are on outside while it is dark inside will allow you to observe what is going on without being seen yourselves.

Curtains should be closed after dark to prevent suspects from observing the activities inside your home

Never leave workers or contractor unattended in your home

Do not leave ladders standing around

Conduct thorough background checks before employing anyone [ permanent or casual workers].

Request their identity document and make a copy for safekeeping. Check their references and do security clearances at the police.

Be careful what is discussed in front of staff.

Don’t leave your garage, front door or back door open or partially open – it serves as an invitation to burglars

Inform police of any suspicious characters who you consider to pose a threat.

If your house has been broken into

Contact your nearest police station immediately

Wait until fingerprints and statements have been taken before touching anything

Unless it is absolutely necessary don’t allow private security personnel to enter the house or touch anything before the police have investigated the scene

Look for strange footprints in the garden and point them out to the police

A list of the make, model and serial numbers of electrical appliances and other valuable equipment should always be available for investigation purposes.

Don’t let criminals rob you of your view!!

Intruderprufe® laminated safety glass, marketed and installed by PG Glass, not only makes it more difficult for criminals to get into your home, it also allows you to enjoy your view.

This security-with-a-view glass is made of two layers of safety glass with a strong vinyl layer in between to protect the integrity of the glass, making burglar and safety doors unnecessary.

By holding the glass together the strong vinyl prevents the glass from breaking into sharp shards. This substantiates the claim that Intruderprufe® will prevent a fall against a glass door or window from turning into a tragic accident.

Lions head coach John Mitchell has received trauma counselling after being stabbed by burglars in his Johannesburg home.

The former All Blacks player, who now coaches the Lions team, says the counseling “was very beneficial” but he needs to “move on” after the attack in the apartment he shared with fellow New Zealander Wayne Taylor.

The 46-year-old Mitchell was stabbed twice, in the arm and leg, after two intruders broke in on Saturday night.

He said on Monday: “my injuries are not too bad and I just thank God that they missed the artery in my leg when they stabbed me.”

Mitchell says he will not let the incident deter his passion for the Lions.

He says: “I need to find closure now and move on with my life.”
