Female dies and pilot critically injured in aircraft crash in Margate


A light aircraft crash at Margate Airport has left a female dead while the pilot if fighting for his life. Reports from the scene indicate that the two were flying in a Rally aircraft around Margate Airport at around 11h00 when it struck the ground.

Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for civil aviation investigators to determine.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene and found a female that had tragically died in the accident; the pilot was in a critical condition and medics worked fervently to stabilize him on scene.

The patient was initially transported to the Netcare Margate hospital for further stabilization, later medics transported the critically wounded man to the Netcare St Augustine’s hospital for the specialized care that he required.

Pedestrian Knocked Down On Point Road In Serious Condition

A twenty five year old man is in a serious condition after allegedly being knocked down by a light motor vehicle on Point Road in the late parts of the evening.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the patient lying in the road, been helped by members of public. Paramedics assessed the patient and found that he had sustained a head injury and minor cuts. The patient was stabilised on scene and transported to Addington Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

SAPS from Point Road were on the scene and would investigate the incident further.

Paramedics in Vaal kept busy

ER24 paramedics in the Vaal were kept busy this afternoon following two serious motor vehicle collisions shortly after one another.

The first collision occurred in Vanderbijlpark when a bakkie allegedly lost control rounding a circle in Playfair boulevard. When paramedics arrived at the scene they found the bakkie in the road on its right side.

There was a total of seven people in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Paramedics identified three of the workers to be in need of medical attention. Two of the workers sustained various lacerations to the head as well as suspected back and neck injuries.

The third worker sustained chest, back and neck injuries. All of the patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.

Shortly after the first collision, paramedics received word of a collision in Sebokeng. Upon arriving at the scene paramedics found a minibus taxi on its side and a late model Mazda laying on its roof.

The Mazda had four occupants at the time of the collision. One of the injured individuals was a four year old girl who had sustained a bruise to her head. The other injured person was a pregnant lady who also had sustained minor injuries in the form of various scrapes and bruise. The other two occupants, also female were fortunate to have sustained minor injuries only.

The driver of the minibus taxi sustained suspected back and neck injuries. All of the occupants received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility for further care.

Paramedics pull lady from burning building


RANDBURG 27 April 2012, 17:30

A female sustained some injuries this afternoon after a fire broke out at her house in Randburg.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, but an ER24 paramedic noticed the smoke from the building when driving pass. The paramedic then investigated the smoke and discovered that a flat was on fire.

Concerned bystanders and onlookers were attempting to extinguish a gas cylinder engulfed in flames. Upon investigating the inside of the apartment the paramedic discovered that a female resident, believed to be aged in her 50′s, was entrapped in the building.

Paramedics escorted the lady from the house before treating her for burns to her hands as well as for smoke inhalation. She was later transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment.

Construction worker dies after falling from moving bakkie in Benoni

A 18 year old construction worker has died after falling off of the back of a moving bakkie on Elm road in Benoni this morning.

The events leading up to the incident is unclear at this stage, but the worker had allegedly attempted to jump onto the load bed of the bakkie while it was moving. The man then fell off of the back of the bakkie onto the road. Concerned coworkers who witnessed the man fall, rushed to his aid and allegedly loaded him onto the back of the bakkie to catch another ambulance they witnessed passing moments before the incident.

The bakkie was unable to catch the other ambulance. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the man at the side of the road surrounded by his coworkers. The man had sustained a suspected head injury as well as suspected back and neck injuries.

The patient was not breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics initiated resuscitation efforts on the man, but to no avail as he was later declared dead at the scene. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.

13-year-old Greytown schoolboy has died after collapsing during a rugby match


A 13-year-old Greytown schoolboy has died after collapsing during a rugby match, paramedics said on Wednesday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the under-14 rugby player died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The boy was rushed to Pietermaritzburg’s Grey’s Hospital at around 17:00 on Tuesday after he collapsed during a game in Pietermaritzburg.

Botha said it was not clear what injuries the boy had sustained as he collapsed while standing next to a scrum.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the first aiders doing CPR on the patient. The medics immediately started with advanced life support resuscitation and managed to regain the heartbeat.”

The Witness reported that the boy was a pupil at Greytown High School, which was playing an away game at Voortrekker High School.

Pedestrian severely injured in Kimberley

A male pedestrian sustained serious injuries this morning after he was struck by a car attempting to cross Barkley road in Kimberley.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, but the man was crossing the road when he was struck by a vehicle on his right side. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the man still in the road and in severe pain.

Paramedics treated the patient at the scene for a broken right arm and a broken right leg as well as a suspected head injury. The man was later rapidly transported to a nearby medical facility for further care.

The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained no injuries in the incident. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.

14 injured in Pietermaritzburg taxi accident

PIETERMARITZBURG 22 April 2012

14 people sustained various injuries this evening following a minibus taxi accident on the R617 in the suburb of Npopomeni.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but the taxi had allegedly veered from the road before overturning multiple times. The minibus taxi rolled through a river and a veld before coming to a standstill.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found a total of 14 patients in need of medical attention. Most of the patients were found outside the wrecked taxi. 13 of the patients sustained injuries ranging from suspected back and neck injuries to various scrapes and bruises.

One female, aged 30, had sustained a severe injury in the form of a broke leg as well as suspected back and neck injuries and various scrapes and bruises. Various Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and all the patients were transported from the scene in various ambulances to various hospitals in the surrounding area.

Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the incident further.

Man dies in Kimberley motorbike accident

KIMBERLEY 22 April 2012, 14: 30

One man has died this afternoon following a serious motorbike collision in Kimberley.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but the man was driving on Earl road in the suburb of Homestead. The motorbike had allegedly veered out of control, catapulting the rider from the motorbike onto the road.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the 38 year old motorcyclist still in the road. The man had sustained serious injuries to his head and chest as well as suspected back and neck injuries.Paramedics treated the man at the scene before loading him into the ambulance for rapid transportation to Mediclinic Kimberley. Shortly after loading the patient into the ambulance the man’s condition started deteriorating rapidly.

Paramedics started resuscitation efforts on the patient while transporting him to hospital. Unfortunately the man was later declared dead at the hospital. Local law enforcement officials will be investigating the cause of the incident further.

Two injured in Sandton collision

Two people sustained some injuries this afternoon following a collision in Sandton on the corners of Main and Peter Place road.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but an Peugeot had collided into the side of an Opel. ER24 paramedics identified two individuals in need of medical attention. The driver of the Peugeot had sustained minor injuries in the form of scrapes and bruises.

The driver of the Opel was entrapped in the vehicle as bent steel had pinned the female in the vehicle. Local fire and rescue services later extricated the driver from the vehicle. The patient then received treatment at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries as well as various scrapes and bruises.

The patient was later transported to Mediclinic Sandton for further medical care. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
