Paraglider injured in Drakensberg

Paraglider

A paraglider is recovering in a Pietermaritzburg Hospital after he was seriously injured in the Drakensburg on Monday afternoon.

It is thought that the man had been paragliding with a group when something caused him to down the glider on a mountainside. He sustained head, chest and pelvic trauma and was in large amounts of pain.

The crash site was virtually inaccessible by road and the Netcare 3 Aeromedical Helicopter was activated from its Virginia base to fly to the man’s aid. The Advanced Life Support trauma team aboard stabilised the man on the hillside before he was airlifted to hospital for further urgent medical intervention.

He remains in a serious condition.
