Pedestrian accidents widespread in Durban

In the past 24 hours within the eThekwini Metro one man has been killed and two others critically injured when they were struck by cars south of Durban.

In the initial incident a man was critically injured yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a car while changing a tyre on the N2 south bound carriageway near Doonside.

It is thought that the man had pulled his car to the road’s shoulder and had been changing a tyre on the right hand side of the vehicle when he was hit by a passing motorist. The man was flung through the air and was found lying nearby.

He was treated and stabilised by Netcare911 Paramedics at the scene before he was rushed by ambulance to the Prince M’Shiyeni Memorial Hospital for further care.

Later that evening a man was killed when he was struck by a car while crossing the N2 north bound carriageway near Durban International Airport.

The man had been crossing the road with his brother and had been midway across the freeway when he was hit by a light motor vehicle. The force of impact at high speed killed the man instantly and his body pushed through the windshield, seriously injuring the front seat passenger.

The woman was treated by medics before she was transported by ambulance to a Durban medical facility for treatment. The man’s distraught brother received trauma counselling from Netcare911 Paramedics.

Today a man was critically injured in a hit and run accident on the M37 near a Petrol Station. The man was crossing the road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

He sustained polytraumatic injuries and was treated by Netcare911 Advanced Life Support Paramedics before he was transported by ambulance to the Prince M’Shiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi for definitive medical care.
