Man critically injured in robbery

A man is fighting for his life in the Prince M’Shiyeni Hospital after he was shot twice in the head in a robbery at the Amanzimtoti Train Station this afternoon.

It is thought that the man had been on his way to board a train and was using a pedestrian foot bridge to get to the platform. He was confronted by a man who demanded he hand over his valuables. In self defence he withdrew a knife and tried to ward off his attacker, who thereafter withdrew a handgun and shot the man twice in the head.

The critically injured man was found lying in a pool of blood on the bridge and was treated and stabilised at the scene by Netcare911 Advanced Life Support Paramedic Mark Thomas before he was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

His condition remains critical and unstable.
