A man is fighting for his life in a Pretoria hospital after sustaining full thickness burns to his entire body. It is believed that the man was lying on his bed and just after 03:00 in the morning he wanted to lite his cigarette .As he struck the match, for unknown reasons the whole room burst into flames trapping the distraught man in the building.
The man was engulfed in flames and frantically tried to get out of the inferno. He clambered out through a window and sustained several lacerations from the jagged glass left in the window frame. Netcare 911 paramedics from the Moot base arrived at 408 de Beer street in Wonder boom where they found the severely burnt and bloodied man lying in a supine position on the back of a bakkie.
Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the patient and after they covered his body with burn shield. He was deftly immobilised, and then transported to the Steve Biko Hospital for specialised treatment.
