Police are investigating the cause of a structural collapse which claimed the life of a construction worker and injured eight others in Ekurhuleni on Thursday.
The accident happened while the workers were pouring and mixing concrete on a site behind Carnival Mall. Firefighters spent hours pulling the men from the rubble.
After the critically injured man was rescued from the debris and skilfully immobilised, he was air lifted to the Netcare Union hospital for the specialised treatment he required.Tragically he had died due to very severe critical injuries he had sustained on the scene.
The four seriously injured were stabilised on scene and then transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment. The workers that sustained minor injuries were treated on scene and then referred to their local doctors for further treatment.
