A construction worker died after falling seven metres at a construction site in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday, the Labour Department said.
“Labour inspectors are currently at the scene of the accident to investigate the cause of the accident and whether occupational health and safety standards were complied with at the time of the accident,” said Gauteng spokesperson Mishack Magakwe.
He said the incident occurred at the construction site of the new Jubilee mall.
“Should the accident be negligence of the employer to take precautionary measures and, or having failed to comply with the prescriptions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, he will face prosecution.” – Sapa
