The driver of a Mitsubishi bakkie has died after losing control of his vehicle on Sweetwaters Road in Pietermaritzburg.
Is it believed that the man in his fourties was driving down the road, near the intersection between Sweetwaters Road and Uplands Road, when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle. ER24 paramedics on scene explained that the road has many bends, and this could have played a role in the reason why the man lost control of the vehicle.
When they arrive on scene, the road side was almost completely destroyed. The vehicle had collided with a lamp post and then with a high brick wall. The force at which the vehicle connected with the wall was so great that the wall was extensively damaged, and the vehicle came to rest on the other side. The vehicle was found to have landed on it’s wheels, with the driver still inside.
The man had sustained multiple fatal injuries, and there was nothing more that paramedics could do for him; he was then declared deceased on the scene.
The local authorities were on scene and would be investigating the incident.
There were no other vehicles involved in the accident, and the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
