Truck overturns on N1 just before the Zambezi turnoff

N1-Zambezi-300x225A man in his fourties has sustained serious injuries after the truck he was travelling lost control and overturned.

The N1 highway had to be closed for a short while, after a truck allegedly experienced mechanical failure and overturned just before the Zambezi turnoff in the Northerly direction. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, the truck was taking up both lanes of the highway, and the driver was still inside the vehicle. The truck was lying on the driver’s side, and Fire and Rescue Services had to pull out the already broken truck’s front windscreen to get the man out.

He had sustained serious injuries, and needed immediate treatment. He was then loaded into an awaiting ambulance for transportation to hospital.

Fortunately, the truck that was medical supplies at the time of the accident, did not crash into any other cars as it overturned. The traffic was however, severely affected, as no one could get through.

Towing services were at the scene, and they tried their best to move the truck over just enough to open one lane to traffic. After 20 minutes, the truck was moved, but still lying on its side. It took just under an hour to get the truck back onto it’s wheels so that it could be towed away.
