Bather rescued having nearly drowned near Camps Bay

Down shot (c)
A bather has narrowly escaped death this afternoon when he nearly drowned at Glen Beach near Camps Bay. The man and a friend had allegedly entered the water from Glen beach. The current unexpectedly drew them away from were they were swimming, dangerously close to nearby rocks.

The one bather managed to swim against the current, but his friend became exhausted and was battered against the rocks.

An on looker then bravely rushed to the aid of the struggling bather who by that time was extremely exhausted. With in no time the Good Samaritan reached the bather and assisted him back to shore. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene the man was struggling with near drowning symptoms. He was then treated at the scene for mild hypothermia and was given supplementary oxygen.

Due to the rough terrain the paramedics called in the assistance of Metro rescue services. With the use of sophisticated rope rescue techniques and some elbow grease the man was carried out of the rough terrain. Local Fire and Rescue services, ER24 paramedics and Metro Rescue battled harsh conditions as sand carried by severe winds battered the rescuers. The rescue took approximately one hour to complete. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.
