Girl (18-months) fights for life after near drowning

An 18-month-old girl is fighting for her life in the King Edward VIII Hospital after a near drowning at a Francois Road residence this afternoon.

The cause of the incident is unclear. Netcare911 Paramedics received a frantic report of the drowning. It is thought that the toddler had been playing near the pool and was founded floating in the body of water.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the sodden girl lying on the floor inside the house. Paramedics immediately set about removing the girl’s wet clothing and then warming her. She was intubated and placed on a manual ventilator while medics initiated CPR.

After trying to revive the girl for nearly an hour, the girl showed a recordable pulse. She was stabilised before being rushed by ambulance to the King Edward VIII Hospital for the specialist care that she required.
