A family of eight is lucky to have escaped serious harm when their paddleboats were swept out of the Amanzimtoti Main Beach Lagoon after a sand bank gave way this afternoon. A man and his three children were transported by ambulance to the Prince M’Shiyeni Memorial Hospital for further medical care.

Paramedics initially received a report of eight people who were missing at sea after their boats were pulled into the surf. A coordinated effort between lifeguards, the NSRI and private ski boats saw the eight plucked from the water and taken to the safety of the shore.

It was there that they were assessed and treated by Netcare911 Paramedics. The family was transported to waiting ambulances by 4X4 vehicle along the beach.
