Tragedy struck a family of holiday makers from Durban this evening when their 16 year old son drowned in a nearby swimming pool

With the temperatures soaring in Cape Town a group of teenagers decided to cool off in a nearby swimming pool close to where they were staying in Mowbray. After a few minutes of cooling off and playing in the pool one of the group noticed their friend not moving at the bottom of the pool.

The teenagers immediately pulled their friend out of the swimming pool and called for a nearby security guard on the premises. The security guard acted quickly and started CPR on the boy whilst the bystanders activated the emergency services.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene the local fire and rescue services had already taken over the resuscitation efforts from the security guard. After a few minutes the decision was made to continue with CPR whilst transporting the boy to a nearby medical facility. Unfortunately the boy was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The appropriate authorities will be investigating the incident.
