A serious collision occurred this rainy morning on the N3 highway in the vicinity of Westville. A passenger vehicle had allegedly became stationary on the highway and pulled off to the yellow emergency lane for safety. Then without warning a large truck collided with the back of the vehicle.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene the driver of the truck had removed himself from the wreckage.
The passenger vehicle however had sustained severe damage and both occupants had to be removed from the vehicle with the use of specialized rescue equipment. The passenger in the smaller vehicle was seated in the back seat of the vehicle and sustained severe injuries. Unfortunately he was declared dead at the scene.
Both drivers were then stabilized and transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. With the weather making conditions difficult for drivers in the Durban area, ER24 would like to advise commuters to take extra precautions when using the roads.
