Three struck by lightning in Eastern Cape

Two children and a woman are being treated in hospital after they were struck by lightning in the Ngsebe village, near Cofimvaba and Ngcobo, on Friday, the Eastern Cape health department.

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the two children, a boy and a girl, and one of their mothers were taken to the All Saints Hospital in Ngcobo.

“The boy is in a critical condition and the girl is stable. The mother is also being treated.”

He said the paramedics in the ambulance risked their lives crossing the river to get to the village, Other ambulances were still trying to cross it to assess whether more people were injured.

A relative accompanying the three to the hospital told workers that two people in the village had been killed.

Kupelo said the storm hit the village around 3pm and apparently destroyed some houses. No further information was available.-Sapa
