Former soccer star Fortune Koloba dies in car accident

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Fortune Koloba was killed in a car accident on Allandale Road in Midrand late on Sunday after the stationary car he was in was hit from behind by another car, reports the Sowetan.

Family spokesperson and former Bafana Bafana winger Lovers Mohlala confirmed the death of Koloba, who was a development coach.

“Fortune was travelling with friends. Their car got a puncture in Midrand. Fortune was asleep,” Mohlala said on Monday. “While the driver was busy changing the tyre, another car hit theirs from behind. Fortune died instantly. This is a big loss to soccer development.

“I worked with Fortune at the Ex-Professionals Soccer Academy and he was committed to his work,” he said.

Mohlala, the founder of the academy, said funeral arrangements were still to be finalised.
