Girls Injured By Tipper Truck

A serious incident occurred this afternoon in Petersen Road in Houtbay near the Houtbay cemetery.
A large construction tipper truck was actively off loading a load with the use of its tipping mechanism, when it started rolling forward down the hill.
At the exact time when the truck started rolling forward two girls, both believed to be aged 10, where in close proximity of the truck. The one girl was stationary at the side of the truck when she was struck by the moving vehicle. The second girl was somehow caught in the front of the truck and was knocked off of her feet before the truck ran over the lower part of her body.
The truck rolled a distance of approximately 10 meters before colliding with a tree which entrapped the driver in the cab. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, local fire and rescue including Metro rescue and ambulance services were already attending to the injured.
The girl who was run over by the truck sustained significant injuries to the lower part of her body and received extensive on scene treatment before being airlifted to hospital in the Skymed Medicopter. The driver and the other girl were both treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility.
