Rescue workers attend to Benoni Factory Fire

The fire in the factory on Liverpool Street in Benoni has destroyed a large part of the building.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is not known and will be investigated by the relevant Fire Investigation Officials. The factory is believed to have been manufacturing batteries and witnesses explained that there may have been some form of explosion before the fire started. Fortunately, the building was evacuated before the fire raged out of control.

The local Fire and Rescue workers along with ER24 staff from the Benoni branch performed a thorough check of the scene to determine if there was even a slight possibility that someone may have been injured or been left inside. It was later determined that everyone who had been in or near the building was accounted for. The Fire fighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze which engulfed most of the factory.

ER24 paramedics stood by at the scene to assist the Firefighters in the event that any of them needed medical assistance.
