Taxi driver injured after colliding with truck

A serious motor vehicle collision occurred this evening on the N2 highway in the vicinity of the Westwood Mall, in Durban.

The collision occurred when the minibus taxi allegedly attempted to overtake a truck. The taxi then collided with the rear of another truck in the left lane. The minibus taxi sustained a severe amount of damage to the front of the vehicle as it collided with the truck at high speed.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the only occupant of the taxi, the driver, entrapped in the front of the vehicle. The driver was extracted by local fire and rescue services which used specialised rescue equipment to cut away pieces of the wreck to free the man.

The man believed to be in his 40’s sustained severe injuries to his lower extremities and received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby medical facility. Traffic on the highway was affected badly as two lanes were closed causing traffic to back up to Umgeni rd.
