An alleged car thief and a pedestrian were killed in a police chase in Mamelodi on Saturday afternoon, Gauteng police said.
Constable Sam Shibambo said police had spotted a Nissan Almera that was reported stolen and gave chase.
The driver of the car sped towards Stormvoel Road, where the car collided with another vehicle. He continued driving towards Mamelodi, hitting a pedestrian near Mamelodi Hostels.
The driver then attempted to escape on foot but was soon caught by police.
A passenger of his car was found dead with a bullet wound to his upper body.
Cases of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving had been opened. – Sapa
