Collision On The M7 near Queensburgh Leaves Six Injured

Three people have sustained serious injuries and another three have sustained minor injuries after a collision involving a articulated truck, a delivery van and a bakkie on the M7 west and east bound near Queensburgh this morning.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the articulated truck in the left hand lane of the M7 west bound, while the delivery vehicle was lying on its side in the right hand lane of the M7 east bound. The bakkie had smashed into the back of the over turned delivery vehicle. All the patients were already out of the vehicle and were found seated on the floor near the accident or were walking around.

Two people including the driver of the bakkie and the driver of the delivery van were treated for serious injuries and needed to be placed on specialised boards to protect their neck and backs. The remaining three passengers from the bakkie sustained minor cuts and bruises. All patients were treated on scene and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area for further medical care.

It is believed that the articulated truck somehow crashed into the back of the delivery van, causing the driver to lose control, go through the centre medium and over turn on the opposite side of the freeway. The bakkie that was travelling in the east bound was unable to avoid the vehicle and crashed into the back of them. Traffic was severely affected in both directions because of this accident. All necessary role players were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
