Fishing trip ends in tragic collision

A serious collision occurred in the early hours of this morning in the Vanderbijlpark area. Three men driving in a grey Ford bakkie were allegedly returning from a fishing trip at the time of the collsion.

The bakkie was traveling on the Ascot on Vaal road when it turned to go on to the on-ramp, onto the R59 highway. The vehicle then left the road in the off ramp and descended into the bush out of control. The vehicle had overturned multiple times down the steep embankment and was found 30 meters away from the road.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found one of the passengers walking around on the scene. The second occupant of the vehicle had sustained a suspected back and neck injury and received on-scene treatment before both were transported to a nearby medical facility by another ambulance service.

The third man was found still entrapped in the bakkie. The man had sustained fatal injuries and was later declared dead on the scene. Local law enforcement authorities were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
