Truck Accident Causes Traffic Delays

[DURBAN – 08 AUGUST 2011 AT 09H00]

Traffic almost came to a standstill this morning after two trucks collided into each other on the N3 West bound leaving Durban just after the Spine Road on ramp to the N3. The accident brought traffic down to one lane as there were two cars in the right hand lane broken down and the trucks were in the middle and left hand lane of the freeway. Making it very difficult for motorists to get past the accident scene!

The driver and passenger of the truck had already being taken out of the vehicle by members of public that witnessed the accident. They were found in the emergency lane away from the accident in a safe place. ER24 paramedics assessed the patients and found the driver had suffered a possible broken leg and neck and back injuries. The passenger had a minor cut and abrasions to his arms and legs. Both patients were stabilised further on scene and transported to Life Entabeni Hospital in a stable condition for further medical care.

It is unclear why the accident occurred but Metro Police were on the scene and will be investigating the accident further. Traffic was back log all the way past Pavilion until the accident was cleared up.
