15 Hurt In Taxi Accident outside Pinetown


[KWA – NDENGEZI – 28 SEPTEMBER 2011 AT 06H40]

A collision between a taxi and a bakkie on the Old Richmond Road in Kwa-Ndengezi just outside Pinetown has left 15 people injured this morning.

ER24 paramedics who were the first to arrive on the scene, found the taxi and bakkie both facing the same direction but on the oncoming lane, blocking one and half lanes, making traffic very difficult to get through.

The driver of the bakkie, a security guard was still seated in the driver’s seat, while the 14 other patients were all from the taxi were found lying on the grass verge near to the taxi. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two people had suffered minor injuries, while thirteen others had suffered very serious injuries and needed specialised equipment to stabilise them further.

One patient had suffered a broken leg and hip and needed Advanced Life Support Intervention to be performed on him. The patients were taken by road to various hospitals in the greater Durban area by ER24 and EMRS for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault as both vehicles has massive vehicle damage to them but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
