Shark attack in Fish Hoek and video by bystander

ER24 paramedics received an emergency call out to Fish Hoek main beach this afternoon for an alleged shark attack.

A man believed to be in his early 40’s had entered the clear blue water by himself for a swim. A shark spotter had allegedly witnessed the attack before informing the emergency medical services of the incident.

Paramedics from Cape Medical Response and Emergency Medical Treatment arrived at the scene and immediately initiated Advance Life Support treatment on the injured man. The man had sustained severe injuries to his lower extremities in the form of an amputated right leg and a partially amputated left leg.

The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was dispatched to the scene within minutes to aid the injured bather. The man was then treated and stabilised at the scene before being airlifted to Mediclinic Constantiaberg for further medical care.
