3 die in Hammanskraal accident

[Hammanskraal 16 October 2011 17:00]

2 men and a woman have been killed after the car that they were travelling in on the N1 between the Murray Hill Toll Plaza and the Wallmannsthal Road exit towards Pretoria rolled due to suspected mechanical failure of the trailer that was being towed.

All details of the accident will be investigated by the police, but when paramedics arrived at the scene, 2 people, a woman and a man, had already succumbed to injuries and they died at the scene. The woman’s 2 year old baby boy was critically injured and he needed immediate treatment. While paramedics initiated Advanced Life Support care on the boy, the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in and the baby was airlifted to Montana Hospital.

A second patient with critical injuries was found at the scene and he too needed rapid treatment. His condition did not improve and paramedics made every attempt to stabilise him. After resuscitation efforts and no improvement to the man’s condition he died at the scene.

The two other occupants of the vehicle, a man and woman, were taken per ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Their conditions were stable and they had sustained moderate injuries.

The police were at the scene to determine what caused the accident.
