23 learners affected by tear gas incident

[Cosmo City Randburg 26 October 2011 10:00]

23 learners at a school on Liberia Street in Cosmo City have been affected after allegedly inhaling what is believed to be a substance like tear gas.

The learners, all aged between 8 and 16, were in classrooms at the time when someone allegedly walked past and sprayed the substance at the rooms. The learners all started to suffer from signs of inhaling tear gas and the paramedics were called.

The learners were suffering from difficulty breathing, burning eyes and mouths and they were first calmed and then treated accordingly by ER24 and Life Fourways Paramedics on scene. They were all taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance for further assessment and treatment.

The culprits are as yet not known, but the school authorities will investigate the matter.
