Car Accident Leaves 5 Injured, Community Member Gives birth To Baby boy


[PIETERMARITZBURG – 29 OCTOBER 2011 AT 15H30]

One person is in a serious condition and four others have sustained minor injuries after two light motor vehicles collided on the New Grey Town Road near Copesville this afternoon.

Paramedics from Pietermaritzburg rushed to the scene and found one of the vehicles down an embankment while the second vehicle was found on the road. The patients were found out of the vehicles and were being helped by the community. One driver was treated for possible neck and back injuries and multiple lacerations, while the remaining four patients were treated for minor cuts and bruises. All the patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to Northdale Hospital for further medical care.

ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedic was about to the leave the scene, when he was called by the community to a woman that had gone into labour. ER24 paramedics assessed her and found that she was in full term labour and that she was about to deliver. A few minutes later, paramedics assisted in delivering a baby boy. Both mom and baby are in a healthy condition and were transported to Northdale Hospital for medical examination.
