[PIETERMARITZBURG – 17 NOVEMBER 2011 AT 21H00]

ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg were called to Plessislaer which is in the area of Edendale for a baby that was found by community members inside a dirt box outside a house this evening.

The local authorities showed the paramedics to the residence and found the baby boy who is believed to be about two days all wrapped up in blankets to keep him nice and warm. Paramedics examined the little boy and could not find anything wrong with but covered him up in the blankets again and transported him to Edendale Hospital for a general medical check up by the doctors and nurses that were on call.

It is believed that the members of a house heard faint cry’s coming from outside, when they investigated they found the baby inside the rubbish bin. The baby was cold and wet as it was raining. They quickly took the baby inside and warmed him up until the emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

The local SAPS will investigate the baby abandonment further.
