The driver of a truck trying to avoid a bakkie that was allegedly turning in the road swerved out and then collided with another 3 cars and the bakkie on the Watson Highway in the direction of the M4 near the Oceans area in KZN this evening.

The driver of the bakkie suffered the worst injuries as the truck crashed into the drivers side of the vehicle despite all efforts by the truck driver to avoid the collision. The bakkie was then pushed into another car and eventually 3 cars, the bakkie and the truck had been damaged in the accident.

The driver of the bakkie sustained critical injuries and he was trapped in his seat. Paramedics explained that the front cabin of the vehicle was substantially damaged and the Fire and rescue Workers needed to use the Jaws of Life to cut him free. He had been the only occupant of the vehicle. After he was removed and further stabilised, he was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance for further emergency care.

The driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries and was in a stable condition. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Fortunately, none of the other occupants of the 3 other cars involved had been injured and they all left the scene privately.
