Witbank collision leaves one dead

A head on collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle on the the Tavastock Road has left one person dead, one person with critical injuries and two other people with serious injuries this morning.

ER24 paramedics and other emergency services arrived on twice scene and found the two vehicles in the middle of the road with extensive damage to both vehicles. Emergency personnel started to assess the patient and they found the driver of the light motor vehicle had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The passenger who is a male to be in his early 30’s was entrapped and in a critical condition. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on him while the rescue team used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to extricate him from the vehicle. The patient had suffered multiple broken bones and possible internal injuries.

The driver and passenger of the bakkie had suffered possible serious neck and back injuries and multiple cuts and bruises. All three patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical intervention.

The necessary authorities will have to investigate the accident further to know who was at fault.
