Single Vehicle Accident Leaves Passenger With Critical Injuries

About 20km outside of Vereeniging on the Vereeniging – Potchefstroom Road, a single vehicle lost control and rolled numerous times and went down an embankment leaving one person in a critical condition and three others with minor injuries this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the vehicle off to the side of the road down the embankment with extensive to the vehicle. The passenger was entrapped and was in a critical condition. The patient had suffered broken bones and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed on the patient while the local Fire Department used rescue equipment to extricate the patient from the vehicle.

The three other occupants from the vehicle were treated for minor to moderate injuries. All four patients were transported to Mediclinic Vereeniging for further medical intervention.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
