Boy drowns at public pool in Vanderbijlpark

Despite all resuscitation efforts by lifeguards and paramedics, a 16 year old boy has drowned at a public swimming pool in Vanderbijlpark.

Witnesses said that they young man was sitting on the side of the pool and the next minute he was in the water. Lifeguards immediately came to the rescue and pulled him out. CPR was started and the paramedics were called in.

Paramedics immediately took over the resuscitation on the boy and they placed him on life support equipment. It appeared for a short time that his condition may stabilise and the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in. Not long after that, his condition rapidly deteriorated and despite continued efforts by all emergency personnel at the scene, there was no change and he was later declared deceased as nothing more could be done for him.

Investigators will need to determine the exact details of what happened which caused the boy to drown.
