Bus Accident in Durban CBD Leaves Four Injured


[DURBAN – 21 FEBRUARY 2012 AT 10H30]

A collision at the corners of Brickhill and Old Fort Road in the Durban CBD involving a bus and a light motor vehicle this morning, has left three people in a serious condition and one other with minor injuries.
ER24 and Medix arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle in the intersection and the bus was a few meters up the road slightly off the road and into a tree. The passenger of the light motor vehicle was in a serious condition and had suffered suspected neck and back injuries and suspected facial injuries. He was placed on a specialised board and needed Advanced Life Support intervention.

The bus driver was entrapped and was in a serious condition. SAPS Search and Rescue who were amongst the first to arrive on the scene, used the Jaws of Life and Other rescue equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle while Advanced Life Support intervention was being performed on him. Once he was freed, paramedics were able to stabilise him further. He was treated for suspected neck and back injuries and possible chest injuries. Two commuters on the bus both females, one was treated for suspected neck and back injuries and the other was treated for a cut to her head. All patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
