[Welbekend 29 March 2012 10:30]

A 19 year old young man was injured after an accident on the R25 this morning. It appears, and according to witnesses, there may have been a partial head on collision between the young man’s bike and a truck with a trailer.

The cause of the accident is not known, but the young man was found by paramedics, lying in the road, having suffered extensive injuries to his legs. He was alert and conscious throughout the ordeal, and paramedics treated him for his injuries while they alerted the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the accident.

The patient had suffered two broken legs, with the right leg having been very badly broken; his right foot was also extensively injured. Paramedics suspected that his hips were also broken as there was an extensive injury to the left hip area.

While the Medicopter made its way to the scene, the patient was stabilised further and prepared for transportation by air.

The Medicopter airlifted the young man to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg where he will receive further treatment.

The occupants of the truck were not injured in the collision.
