Pedestrian hit by car sustains minor injuries

[Lenasia 10 April 2012 12:00]

Four men were allegedly pushing a cart along the R554 in the direction of Lenasia this afternoon when a vehicle crashed into the cart.

The driver of the Toyota Avanza was allegedly just overtaking another vehicle when the cart appeared in the road. The driver was unable to avoid a collision with the cart, and according to witnesses, the driver lost control after trying to perform evasive maneuvers.

The Toyota rolled and came to rest on its side. Bystanders had stopped to help the driver, pulling him from the vehicle. Paramedics found him lying on the side of the road and began their assessments. It appeared that he had sustained a possible back and head injury, and was treated on the scene before being loaded into the ambulance on a backboard. He was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for further assessment and care, and was handed over in a stable condition.

Of the four men pushing the cart, one man was knocked over in what appeared to be fortunately low impact to his body. He was found seated on the roadside and had a small cut to his head. He was taken per ambulance to Lilian Ngoyi Hospital.

The other three men were not injured in the accident.
