Motorcyclist airlifted after Weltevredenpark accident

[Weltevredenpark 11 April 2012 17:00]

The motorcyclist was allegedly traveling on Springhaas road in Weltevredenpark when the head on collision occurred.

The man in his 50’s was flung from his motorbike when he collided into the front of a hatchback light motor vehicle. The incident took place just at the intersection to JG Strijdom Drive, but the exact cause is not yet known.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the motorcyclist was lying on the side pavement of the road. He had suffered extensive injuries to his legs, with the left leg being very badly damaged. The patient was alert and orientated but in a severe amount of pain, and paramedics initiated immediate treatment.
While stabilising the man’s injuries, the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in and they landed near the Hillfox Centre to load the patient. He would need urgent treatment at a medical facility and he was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

Although shocked by what had just taken place, the woman who was driving the light motor vehicle at the time of the accident was fortunately not injured.
