Construction worker dies after falling from moving bakkie in Benoni

BENONI 26 April 2012, 09:30

A 18 year old construction worker has died after falling off of the back of a moving bakkie on Elm road in Benoni this morning.

The events leading up to the incident is unclear at this stage, but the worker had allegedly attempted to jump onto the load bed of the bakkie while it was moving. The man then fell off of the back of the bakkie onto the road. Concerned coworkers who witnessed the man fall, rushed to his aid and allegedly loaded him onto the back of the bakkie to catch another ambulance they witnessed passing moments before the incident.

The bakkie was unable to catch the other ambulance. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the man at the side of the road surrounded by his coworkers. The man had sustained a suspected head injury as well as suspected back and neck injuries.

The patient was not breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics initiated resuscitation efforts on the man, but to no avail as he was later declared dead at the scene. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
