An elderly woman has been killed after an accident in Three Rivers in the Vaal.
It appears that a truck carrying a load of sand and a Mercedes A Class collided head on, while traveling on Blackwood Road near the intersection with Heidelburg road. Both vehicles then left the road and landed in the storm water ditch at the side of the road, the Mercedes crushed beneath the large truck.
Due to the severity of the accident and the weight of the truck on top of the car, the woman driving the Mercedes died of her injuries at the scene. She had sustained multiple injuries and nothing further could be done for her by paramedics at the scene.
The local Fire and Rescue department spent almost 90 minutes cutting away at the two wrecks in order to remove the woman’s remains.
The driver and only occupant of the truck was not injured in the accident.
