Around 07:30 this morning, a man in his 40’s was travelling on his BMW motorcycle towards the N1 highway when a pedestrian was allegedly trying to cross the road outside Waterfall Hospital on Allandale Road in Midrand. The two collided and paramedics were immediately called to the scene.
Both men were found lying on the tarmac, both having sustained severe injuries to their lower legs. The motorcyclist had a bad break to his lower leg just below his knee, and paramedics were surprised to find that he was not complaining of much pain. They stabilised the broken leg and the local provincial services took the man to Waterfall hospital for further care.
The pedestrian had broken both of his legs in the impact with the bike. He had also sustained deep cuts and bruises to his face after falling to the road. The ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedics took over his treatment, giving him something for his pain and he was then taken in a stable condition by ambulance to Tembisa Hospital.
The cause of the collision, and details as to who was at fault will fall under investigation by local authorities.
