Benoni dog mauls man

A 52 year old man sustains critical injuries in an apparent dog attack in Northmead in Benoni.

The man was walking on 3rd Avenue in Northmead when the dog from a house on the opposite side of the road jumped a wall and began biting the man. It appears that the dog was able to drag the man across the road as he was found lying near the house where the dog had come from. The CMS Security team was alerted to the incident and they arrived first at the scene. They attempted to remove the dog off of the already badly injured man. ER24 and the SAP followed closely behind the security team and fortunately the dog was able to be put into the yard and locked up.

Initial assessments of the patient reveals large chunks of flesh missing from the mans arms and legs as well as multiple deep bite marks to his face. Although still alert he was in a serious condition. Paramedics bandaged his wounds and stabilised him on scene before loading him into the ambulance for transport to Tambo Memorial Hospital.

The fate of the dog is not yet decided and police will conduct their necessary investigations into the incident.
