Head on collision in Dainfern claims a life

[Dainfern, GP 27 June 2012 09:30]

A head on collision between a car and a truck on the R511 outside of Dainfern Estate had claimed one life and left another injured.

The Renault Clio collided into the front of the truck and the car and paramedics arrived at the scene to find the vehicle still mangled into the front of the truck. The damage to the car was so extensive that the driver was left trapped in the vehicle. The young man, appearing to be around the age of 30, did not survive the massive injuries that he had sustained and he was later declared dead on scene. The local Fire and Rescue Services needed to use the Jaws of Life to remove the remains of the man from the wreckage.

The driver of the truck was left with moderate injuries and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and the necessary investigations will be conducted by the police who attended the scene.
