Fourteen school children age between fourteen and seventeen that were in a taxi and a driver of a light motor vehicle have been injured on the R554 between Alberton and Wadeville this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Johannesburg South arrived on the scene and found the taxi and the light motor vehicle still on the road and in the direction of Germinston. The taxi had collided into the back of the light motor vehicle and both had extensive damage.

Paramedics assessed the school children and the driver of the light motor vehicle and found that the driver and three of the children needed to be treated for suspected neck and back injuries. They were placed on specialised boards and put in to waiting ambulances. The remaining eleven children were treated for minor abrasions and general body pains. They were stabilised on scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The circumstance around the accident was unclear but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
