Four people sustained various injuries this morning following a serious collision on the N1 highway under the R300 bridge. The collision involved a total of four vehicles which collided with one another.

The events leading up to the collision is unclear at this stage, but a Toyota Hilux bakkie had collided into the rear of another passenger vehicle causing that vehicle to collide with two other vehicles in front of it.

The vehicle which had been crushed by the bakkie had two male occupants. One of the men had sustained a serious head injury. Rescue workers from the WCG: EMS had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the vehicle in order to free the occupants. Both men were later rapidly transported to a nearby medical facility for further care.

Another two patients received treatment at the scene for various injuries before being transported to nearby medical facilities in various ambulances. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
