Dramatic four hour rescue operation saves man 45 after fall at Kloof Gorge near Pinetown

A man is in a critical condition after falling in excess of sixty meters from the Kloof Gorge near Pinetown this morning. Reports indicate that the forty-five-year old man was at the edge when he lost his footing and fell over the cliff.

Netcare 911 paramedics, S A P S search and rescue, fire department and several other services arrived at the scene and could hear the man calling from the bottom of the Gorge. A Rescue system was set up and a rescue officer and paramedic were lowered to assess the injured man. After the initial assessment Captain Troy Allison and the advanced life support paramedic Garry Paul was lowered to stabilize and package the injured man.

The Police helicopter lowered a rescue rope and after the patient and Captain Allison were attached they were lifted to the top of the mountain where a Doctor and paramedics were standing by to stabilize him.

The patient was packaged and then airlifted with the Red Cross medical helicopter to the Nkosi Albert Luthuli hospital for the care that he required.
