Rescue of a woman in Miller’s Point

[Miller’s Point, WC 26 August 2012 00:00]

Paramedics and rescuers spent approximately two hours on a rescue of a patient who had landed 30 meters down a steep embankment following an accident on Main road in Miller’s Point near Simon’s Town.

The vehicle involved was not found, and the only indication that an accident had taken place was the patients who explained that they had been in a car, and small pieces of vehicle strewn around the scene. It is assumed that the vehicle may have been washed away at the bottom of the embankment had it rolled far enough.

The man and woman appear to have have been ejected from the vehicle, and landed down the steep slope off the side of the road. And while the man was able to climb up, the woman was not and she would need to be rescued. The man walked about two kilometers in order to find help, and paramedics and rescuers arrived on scene.

Not only was the slope extremely steep, with trees that needed to be avoided every couple of meters, the rain had left the area very muddy making it an even more difficult rescue.

Luckily the woman, aged in her 20’s, was not badly injured, and while she was complaining of back and neck pain, it appeared that she hadn’t sustained any other serious physical injuries. Rescuers placed her onto specialised equipment and hoisted her to the top of the slope where she continued to be assessed and monitored while she was loaded into the ambulance and transported to Victoria hospital.

The man did not want to go to hospital by ambulance and chose to go at a later stage using private transport.

Local police will be investigating the case.
