Mans arm pinned under truck in Brackenfell

[BRACKENFELL, WC, 9 November 2012, 12:00]

A male pedestrian sustained serious injuries this afternoon after his right arm was pinned underneath the wheel of a truck in Brackenfell.

The events leading to the incident is unclear, but the man had allegedly stepped into traffic to collect money from a vehicle when he was struck by the flatbed truck. The pedestrian was then dragged underneath the wheel of the truck for approximately two meters before the left front wheel of the truck came to rest on the mans right arm.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian, believed to be aged in his 30’s, still entrapped under the truck and in severe pain. Various other services including the Life Vincent Pallotti paramedic, fire and rescue services, WCG: EMS rescue services and the Rescue 6 crane was dispatched to the scene.

The man then received treatment for pain and head injuries as he was pinned underneath the truck. The rescue 6 crane later lifted the flat bed truck off of the mans arm so that paramedics could remove him from underneath the trucks wheel.

The patient then received treatment at the scene for severe traumatic injuries to his right arm, deep cuts and laceration, broken bones, as well as a suspected head, back and neck injury. He was later rapidly transported to Tygerberg hospital for further treatment.

Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the incident further.
