A Global Aviation charter plane caught fire while it was aborting take off at OR Tambo International Airport this morning, the Airports Company SA (Acsa) said.
One of its tyres exploded, causing the tyre to catch fire, Acsa spokesperson Solomon Makgale said. The aircraft, destined for Lilongwe, Malawi, was carrying 130 passengers and six crew.
No injuries were reported and the fire had been extinguished. Only one runway was currently operating at the airport.
